Since I moved to Miami, every year I usually go for the typical Birthday Week Extravaganza , partying every nights and sharing a chic dinner with friends who all dress up for the occasion , just for me!
This year I have decided to do something different and plan a destination birthday celebration, and I just thought Why Not New Orleans?
And I was soooo right! I definitely fell in love with New Orleans! Now I am super thrilled to share with you my top 5 things to do in New Orleans!
1/ Book a room at the Troubadour Hotel
While traveling, I usually love to simply rent with AirBnB, but I wanted to enjoy a very special time and after seing pictures on Instagram totally fell in love with the Troubadour Hotel that my IG friend @Derrahoward and fellow influencer recommended to me!
Located on Gravier street, only two blocks away from the French Quater, the Troubadour is a modern, chic but cosy boutique hotel. The hotel location is super ideal! Far enough to avoid the noise and close enough to walk everywhere you want to eat and see.
The contemporary decor of the is perfect for your Ig pictures ( you know a Queen got to get all the good shots!) .
The rooms are nicely decorated and very comfortable with great beds. They also have a great shower and bath area with an in room steamer.
The staff was absolutely fantastic! welcoming, friendly and very accommodating and
I definitely had a very pleasant stay, and would gladly book it again!
2/ Get Tipsy in Bourbon Street
If you saw the movie Girls Trip, you know it’s just a classic thing to do when you are in town!
Bourbon street is famous for it’s plethora of bars and live concerts! Get there around 7:30 pm and enjoy an amazing night filled with Huge Beers, Carnival inspired jewelry and great music!
3/ Get a Taste of the Creole Cuisine
It’s all over Nola!
Good food is really not a hard thing to find in the city, it’s literally EVERYWHERE! Whether you’re looking for a historic New Orleans restaurant or just a good place to eat Creole or Cajun food, there are plenty of choices for authentic, mouth-watering dining!
Below is the list of one I have tried and validated :
Fried Chicken , Baked Mac N Cheese, Side of Red Beens
Aligator Po Boy & Fries
Creole Red Beans & Rice
- Daisy Dukes Express
Chicken Sandwich
- Ruby Slipper
White Chocolate Bread Pudding Pancakes
- Last but not the least, YOU HAVE TO try the delicious beignets from Café du Monde!
Café au Lait & Beignets
4/ Take the Drunken Haunted Houses Tour
Marie Laveau's Haunted House
This 2h walking tour is pretty cool especially if you are with a group of friends or relatives like I was! We heard stories about the history and supernatural side of this historic neighborhood. The one who really marked me was the story of Marie Laveau, and how she used to practice voodoo ceremonies and scientific experience on her slaves.
As it is indicated in the title of this tour, your guide will allow time for you to purchase drinks at bars along the way.
5/ Get a Palm or Cards reading in Jackson Square
If you love mystical vibes, stop by Jackson Square to get a tarot or palm reading by one of the psychics working there. I tried a 30 minutes session with my King just for fun, and it was so interesting!
A lot of things that were said spoke to both of us. We even have been told how many kids we are going to have in the future, so I would have to keep you posted on the accuracy level of our reading ! Haha!
I had a blast in Nola! Ans will definitely go back as soon as possible. If you have found this article interesting and useful and what to share some good tips , I would love to from you, so feel free to leave a comment in the dedicated section.
Cheers,
Imara
